The Baltic Sea is full of curiosities ๐ŸŒŠ

The Baltic Sea is currently the world's largest brackish water reservoir, i.e. water with a salinity between fresh and sea water.

The average salinity of the Baltic Sea is approx 7,8โ€ฐ, while in the oceans it is on average approximately 36,6โ€ฐ. Such a large difference is mainly due to the limited exchange of water with the North Sea and the huge amount of freshwater supplied by it about 250 rivers flowing into the Baltic Sea.

However, salinity is not the same everywhere. In the area Gulf of Bothnia and Gulf of Finland it is close to zero, while nearby Danish Straits may exceed even 20โ€ฐ.

It is these unique conditions that make The Baltic Sea is a sea different from most seas and oceans in the world.
